ABOUT THIGH LIFT SURGERY
Losing weight is a huge triumph for anyone to achieve. However, men and women who reach their weight loss goals can often be met with one last obstacle inhibiting the completion of their physical transformation: excess skin. Depending on how long you were overweight and how much weight you lost, extra skin may pose a problem if the skin was not able to adapt to the new size and shape of your body. The thighs are an area of particular concern for many patients. For this reason, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kirk Moore offers thigh lift surgery (known as thighplasty) at Plastic Surgery Institute of Utah, a procedure that trims away excess skin on the inner and outer thighs to create a tighter, more contoured appearance. This surgery has risen in popularity because it offers natural results for patients battling loose skin on the thighs. Contact our Midvale, UT office to schedule a private consultation with Dr. Moore.
IDEAL CANDIDATES
Thighplasty is a skin removal and skin tightening procedure that addresses sagging skin. Thigh lift surgery is considered to be an after weight loss procedure. It is often performed for patients who have lost 100 pounds or more. It is also popular among older men and women who are battling loose skin due to age, as well as women whose weight has changed due to pregnancy. If you have hanging, wrinkly, or loose skin on the upper thighs (the inner thighs, outer thighs, or both), this surgery can be a big help. Please keep in mind that if cellulite is your main concern, Dr. Moore can suggest other procedures to appropriately reduce the appearance of cellulite.
SURGICAL TECHNIQUE
During a thigh lift, general anesthesia is typically used. An incision is made near the top of the thigh in the natural crease where it meets the torso. This incision usually extends down to the midway point of the thigh area. This creates enough room to use liposuction (if needed) to remove isolated pockets of fat and trim away all loose skin at the top of the necessary area. The remaining skin will be pulled upward so it can be tightened and safely secured with sutures. In some cases, an incision may be necessary on the outer thigh area or underneath the buttocks, depending on the amount of tissue being removed. This surgery at Plastic Surgery Institute of Utah reshapes the entire thigh area, leaving a shapelier, tighter, more contoured appearance.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Thighplasty takes about 2 – 3 hours to complete. Once the surgery is over, you will be monitored and then sent home to recover. There is usually bruising, discomfort, and swelling during the first few days of recovery. After 2 – 4 days, most patients are up and able to slowly walk around, which is necessary for circulation and healthy healing. The overall recovery period typically takes about 6 – 8 weeks. Following your at-home wound care instructions provided by Dr. Moore will help the incision heal properly. Even though there will be some scarring, the new shape and contour of your thighs will help you regain your self-confidence, and you will finally be able to reveal your new legs with pride.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much does thigh lift surgery cost?
The total cost of thigh lift surgery will consist of many fees, including those for the surgical facility, anesthesia, tests, and more. Once Dr. Moore has created your unique thigh lift surgical plan during your consultation, he will be better able to estimate your costs. Plastic Surgery Institute of Utah can help you find low-interest medical financing that will make your thigh lift surgery easy to afford. This will allow you to focus on getting the results you want from a skilled, board-certified plastic surgeon, like Dr. Moore.
Will a thigh lift remove cellulite or stretch marks?
A thigh lift is the best choice to achieve nicely contoured and slimmer legs. Since the procedure calls for skin tightening and removing excess fat, it also improves the appearance of cellulite or other skin irregularities (like stretch marks) on your upper legs. If you are concerned about cellulite or stretch marks, let Dr. Moore know during your consultation so he can customize your surgical plan to match your goals.
How long will my results last?
If you follow a healthy lifestyle that includes a proper diet and regular exercise, you should enjoy the results of your thigh lift for a long time. Dr. Moore advises you to be at or near a stable weight before surgery so that maintaining your results is easy. Pregnancy or significant weight changes after a thighplasty can compromise your results. During your consultation, Dr. Moore will explain what you can do to ensure that your results last longer.
Can I combine a thigh lift with other surgeries?
Many patients combine a thigh lift with a tummy tuck or butt lift in a custom lower body lift. A thigh lift is also a common part of a mommy makeover or after weight loss surgery. During your consultation, talk to Dr. Moore about all your concerns and goals so he can create a treatment plan that gives you the results you want.
What about a nonsurgical thigh lift?
While there are nonsurgical treatments for skin tightening and fat reduction, these are better suited for small improvements. Thigh lift surgery is the best way to address moderate to severe amount of loose skin and stubborn fat on your legs. If you are interested in nonsurgical options, ask Dr. Moore for more information during your consultation. He will tell you the benefits and drawbacks of both thigh lift surgery and nonsurgical options, as well as his recommendation on which would be best for your goals.
